Maybe it's naivete that had us not even checking, but we kind of thought the ingredients in buttermilk would be, well, buttermilk. So you can imagine how shocked we were to discover that not only did the buttermilk contain a rather fair amount of cornstarch, but that this particular company used genetically modified (GMO) cornstarch!
Those creepy little GMOs found their way into our food through a completely unexpected source.
From our reading, no good comes from these Genetically Modified foods. While any number of studies have demonstrated negative side effects. Among these include a very scary ability for modified DNA to be adopted and reproduced in our DNA. Call us crazy, but we're not ready for corn specialists to control our DNA. Otherwise we sure as heck better not have to worry about mosquitoes and other pests during the summer (GMOs are developed to resists insects so if our DNA is changed shouldn't we be pest resistant?).
If your New Years Resolution involved some commitment to health you probably intend to eat well. That is why you should join us Thursday for a showing of the documentary GENETIC ROULETTE. This wonderful film highlights the concern over GMO foods and give insight how to avoid them. Learning and using these principles is a critical step on your journey towards health.
You may not always get it right, obviously we messed up pretty big! But knowledge brings awareness, and awareness offers the opportunity to choose.
Are you going to choose wisely?
