It is important to recognize the patterns and beliefs we hold on to and how they affect our lives. It is also important to let go of the "victim story" and realize it for what it is, serving to awaken us to our core. Life isn't happening to you, it is happening because of you. Yeah!!
I began life in ways that would trigger me to step into my healer potential. I had asthma and allergies into my twenties. They were severe enough to hospitalize me and keep me from doing things that would be healthy for me (like playing in nature, loving on animals and exercising). Everything I craved to do as a kid I was told not to because it would flare up my symptoms. I believed them and so became a victim, holding back on living for fear that I wouldn't be able to live anymore. Asthma and allergies became my excuse, like a badge I wore on my head so everyone knew what I was: asthma and allergies. Later, I learned how to reverse this thinking and learned to allow myself to truly live and love.
As a child, I wanted to find the cure for asthma. When I played by myself I would take my stuffed animals and play doctor or teacher. As an adult, those are exactly what I chose to do with my life, heal and teach others to heal; just not in the conventional medical ways.
When I left for college, I went to another state and felt a sense of freedom. I began to step into my curiosity, my self power and to begin listening to my body (although I did not know this at the time). I began to exercise at the gym and after taking a health class and moving off campus, eating healthier. I stopped getting flu vaccines. By the time I graduated I was thinner, healthier and using allergy medicine only during peak seasons (not daily anymore) and asthma inhalers only in emergencies (no longer daily).
Then I moved to Houston, TX where I ran my first marathon in January. I was previously told not to run and stay inside in the winter because the cold made my asthma worse. After that marathon, I felt such a sense of achievement. I was so proud of myself because I was stepping away from my "victim story" and into my personal power. I became a certified personal trainer so that I could help others change their lives.
Next, I moved to Dallas to begin Chiropractic College. I had no idea what I was in for when I started the program, but life expanded into areas I had not been before. I learned about how the body is designed to heal itself, how the body is designed to be healthy, how the body is designed to give birth. I also learned numerous natural healing modalities including energy techniques. I began to apply all that I was learning in my life, even though my family and friends from the past thought I was weird or I didn't know what I was talking about. My life improved and I wanted to tell everyone how they could change their lives, too! I was no longer taking asthma or allergy medications.
After graduation, I got married, moved to another state to open our first practice and began a whole new awakening. I was reminded of teachings I had in school and throughout my life. Some that as a child I had always questioned because it just didn't sit right for me. I met people who were supportive of my journey and helped guide me along the way. I leaped into the next part of my journey and began to feel more freedom, lighter, happier, grateful and joyful.
After moving back to Oklahoma, we became pregnant with our first child. I did everything as natural as I could. I did not have ultrasounds, I used midwives and doulas. I did not take any medications. I delivered my daughter at home with my husband, midwife and doula. It was such an empowering experience. As is each day with her. I breastfed her for a year, we use cloth diapers and I do my best to make sure she eats clean healthy food and water each day. I also pay attention to how I act and interact each day, so that she may learn to be a loving, self-empowered and open to all possibilites adult.
I continue to do daily practices that allow me to grow in all areas of life and health. I love to share this information with people. I have learned that: I get to choose, Me Too, Love really is most important to life and health, First I must Love myself, Forgiveness doesn't mean accepting the behavior, Love will dissolve everything, In all things I must use my breath, Listen to my body (the body will tell you what you want to know), and so much more.
My "job" is not to judge you or to criticize you, as is it not serving to do those to myself. I am here to serve you, learn from you and grow with you, because doing all of this serves me. As this blog grows we will post various topics from What you eat and drink, to how you breath, sleep, exercise and most importantly How and What you THINK.
