Any time we get bogged down with details we're living on the Left side of our brain. The left side is our analytical side comparing, distinguishing, and highlighting differences between us and our environment. Very helpful indeed when it comes to tasks like driving! The only issue is that we often become so intensely focused with our left brain, that the ability of the right isn't allowed to show up and play.
What does the right side do? It is our creative and connected side. It helps us feel and relate to the world around us and find similarities that bring us together. The right brain sees the "whole picture" giving us insight into ourselves and our communities. It's like seeing the entire quilt instead of focusing on a single stitch.
It's relation to health is huge! Have any of you ever been so bogged down by details you give up trying a new diet? Been so confused about which type of exercise is good for you that you're paralyzed into never using your gym membership? These are left brain thoughts and they are so numerous they make it hard to know where to go.
But if I use the right brain to examine my body and it's health as a whole, I see that simplicity drives health. It becomes apparent that the type of veggie I eat means much less than the fact that I ate a vegetable at all. The type of exercise I perform has less to do with my health than me simply going out and doing something. Than I know that as a whole, I'm supporting myself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Getting it right means getting to the right side of the brain. Give it a chance to see the whole amidst the details. When we bring the power of the right and left together, we are truly powerful beings indeed. And that is how we can create simple, effective change.
